The Challenge

Lack of communication and coordination between the constructor and the tenants in a long, complex and sensitive process.

The Goal

The user will manage all his tasks and communication with the constructor through the app during the construction process.

The Value

The tenant will gain confidence and control in the process while saving time, money and effort.

User research

The app is a part of a B2B2C system so we have 2 sides involved:

  • Tenants' coordinator- who represents the constructor and manages the construction process in front of the tenants.

  • The tenant

These are my main findings from the interviews:

The Coordinator

The tenants don't understand the construction stages and causing delays in the schedule.

Tenants call the coordinator for everything.

The constructor can't give a price quote for anything in advance.

Tenants don't understand the meanings of the changes they ask for and it's affect on the schedule and process.

There is one person who is in contact with all the tenants of the project.

I have researched project management apps and desktop interfaces, some are designated for construction projects. I also studied task management apps, gantt charts, checklist apps, and more.

Insights

One platform

Create a system that manages all the communication and aspects of the construction process. Manage every action or request (from the coordinator or vendors) through the app which will give the tenant control in the process.

Dashboard

Since we are in a long term project, the app needs to provide a general picture of the current status in a glance. The control panel will also be used as the navigation menu in order to create a simple and intuitive platform.

Tasks division and Timing

The tasks will open gradually by the coordinator according to the construction schedule. The tenant will have access to the order and status of the tasks.

The tenant has direct access to the most important information and urgent tasks at all times.

He can review his options, view important information, schedule a meeting or request credit.
